Waste Management & Sustainability

Osprey supplies our customers with waste management and recycling solutions. We believe that it is only right for us to follow the same guiding principles that we ask of our customers when considering an Osprey system.

Our long-term vision is to have no manufacturing waste going to landfill from the production of our equipment. Not only do we seek to eliminate our own waste, but we are also working with our vendor partners to determine best practices to reduce and recycle materials used in their production of our products.

In July 2017, we started a program to identify waste and scrapped materials that have the potential to be recycled or repurposed. In some cases, procedures were evaluated before production even begins.

Major waste streams have been identified such as steel, lumber, plastics, paint and cardboard/paper. A program has been developed to address the proper handling, organization, storage, and recycling of waste and scrap materials to minimize the potential impact on the environment. For example, one such program reuses incoming protective packaging materials for shipping. Bubble wrap, packing foam and peanuts, air pillows, and other shipping materials are reused on outgoing shipments from Osprey. We encourage staff members to bring in these materials from their home deliveries, so they can also be used in the program.

As part of our commitment to promoting sustainability beyond our immediate production processes, we have installed ENERGY STAR certified Level 2 charging stations in our parking lot. These stations not only facilitate the convenient transition to electric vehicles for our staff and visitors, but also represent a tangible step towards our goal of significantly reducing carbon emissions. Given the typical usage at our workplace, these Level 2 charging stations can efficiently recharge most electric vehicle batteries in 4-6 hours. By providing a reliable, efficient charging solution, we are enabling a greener commute and reinforcing our leadership in adopting eco-friendly practices.

We have developed sustainability performance metrics to measure our program’s progress. Osprey believes it is our responsibility to act and operate our business in an environmentally responsible manner. We will strive to set an example that others will follow.
